Ambassadors of the New Covenant

• God has continued to create a people for Himself through the New covenant. These people are known to be the Body of Christ, a.k.a the church.

• All Christians are a part of the universal body of Christ and should be a part of a local expression of the body of Christ.

• As Christians we are to be followers of Jesus. We are to follow Jesus together with other Christians.

As followers of Jesus we are His ambassadors and are to make disciples by

The Purpose of the Covenant - Various Texts

1 Peter 1:22–2:12 (ESV): 22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; 24 for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, 25  but the word of the Lord rem

The People of the New Covenant - Various Texts

Four Truths

1. God is a God of covenants. He makes them with Himself and He makes them with His people.

2. God uses the Covenant of Grace (the five covenants mentioned) to create a people for Himself.

3. So, we are the covenant people of God and in covenant together as the church.

4. So, we use the Bible to understand our covenant community and how we should live within that covenant community.

Let’s take a quick look at some Scr

Daniel 12 - Unveiled Ending

The book of Daniel and this chapter in particular shows us that the world is profoundly broken and cannot be fixed. It must be made new. One of the main purposes of this chapter and all the Book of Daniel is to help us find purpose in the pain, not dull it or avoid it.

V.1 - “At that time” is linked to the previous passage. This is part of the vision from chapters 10 and 11. Which book contains the names of the people who will be delivered? This

Daniel 11 - Unveiled Evil

Daniel 11 is linked to Daniel 10 and 12. It is part of the final vision we have in the Book of Daniel. Chapter 10 gave us the groundwork for Daniel to receive the vision.

This chapter continues in the Apocalyptic genre and details very specific prophecies about the future of the world and the nation of Israel. The majority of the chapter seems to focus in on the time spanning from 539 BC - 164 BC. This would be future to Daniel and the Jews of his

Daniel 10 - Unveiled Battles

Chapters 10-12 are one unit that cover Daniel’s final vision. The vision comes to Daniel in the third year of the reign of Cyrus. This would be 538 BC. Daniel was taken captive in 605 BC and has been in Babylon for over 70 years. In the first year of Cyrus’s reign God worked in his heart to make a decree that the Jews could return to their land and rebuild their temple.

Ezra 1:1–11 (ESV): 1 In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the wo

Hebrews 9:27–28 (ESV): 27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, 28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Psalm 31:14–15 (ESV): 14  But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” 15  My times are in your hand;

Palm Sunday - Hosanna to Hallelujah - Matthew 21:1-17

Today is referred to as Palm Sunday because it is believed that the branches that were laid down in front of Jesus would have been palm branches. These were also used with royalty and the celebration of royalty during this time in this part of the world.

This day is closely connected with what we have been studying in Daniel 9. One interpretation of the 70 weeks (490 years) has the day of Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jeru

Daniel 9:24-27 - Unveiled Weeks Pt. 2

Context: The context of the passage is a specific answer to Daniel’s prayer. Thus, Daniel’s prayer is vital in understanding what it being said here.

As we read through Daniel’s prayer to remind us of the context, listen and look for the theme(s) in it. We see at the beginning of the prayer that Daniel is reading Jeremiah the Prophet. This is also vital in our understanding of what is happening in the answer Daniel receives.

Daniel is a

Daniel 9:24-27 - Unveiled Weeks

The words and vision that are given to Daniel at the end of chapter 9 are some of the most difficult verses to interpret in the entire Bible. We must remember that the vision is linked to what has been said to Daniel by the angel Gabriel and what Daniel has just prayed. Likewise, Gabriel’s encouragement to Daniel that Daniel is greatly loved (or treasured) is important to understanding what is happening in the passage. We also must remember

Daniel 9:1-23 - Unveiled Prayer

Vv. 1-3 - This is most likely year 539 BC. Notice that Daniel is reading Scripture. He is reading and meditating on Jeremiah and the end of the exile. This causes Daniel to pray. Why would he pray if the Bible said it was already going to happen? Why do we pray if God is sovereign? We pray because God is sovereign. Daniel is humble and has intensified his prayers and is showing true desire for God.

Daniel is likely reading the following pass

Daniel 8 - Unveiled Anguish (Page 757 in the Pew Bible)

C. 550 BC is the third year of Belshazzar’s reign. It is around this same time that king Cyrus defeated the Medes and united the empire to be the two empires as one. This vision comes two years after the last. Chapter fice of Daniel makes more sense knowing that Daniel had seen this visions before Belshazzar offered for Daniel to be third in the kingdom of Babylon.

Daniel was aware of the prophecy in Jeremiah 25 that s
